Really, it wouldn't take much from each of us to do this. It would be a non profit organization dedicated to raising funds for the single purpose of paying foster parents to keep these kids in their homes a while longer. I think most of them would agree to do it, not only because it makes sense and would help the kids, but also because most of those people participating in the foster parent programs have a real love of children, and want to do what's best for them. I'm sure of it.
I'll start the whole thing, registering the non profit, and then, if anyone else wants to join, let me know. There are not only individual donations to look for, but we could approach corporations, other non profits that already have lots of money to give for these type of purposes, churches, etc. for donations.
I don't think that many would refuse to give these kids some "starter money" as I call it. The money to get a good start in adult life, going to their foster parents for a continuation of the life they have right now. Heaven knows, if they were taken from their parents at a young age for neglect or abuse, which they all were, they sure didn't have a good start to their childhood.
It would be wonderful for them to know that other people care about them and their future, and that they're not alone in the world. They need to have the security to go out in the world knowing that somebody, in fact a whole group, has their backs, and they're not alone.
We can give it to them. It would be easy.

A CALL FOR ASSISTANCE
I'm putting out the call for some people who could use our help. The first group I'd like to give some shelter to is composed of all the foster kids turning 18. You might not realize it, but the day they turn 18, all the money to support them stops. That means that many of them are turned out of their foster homes, and all of them are on their own, to face the world alone. Not exactly a good start in life, and not what most of us would like to see happen to them.
It's hard enough to enter adulthood when you have a family and support, financial and emotional, but imagine how hard it is for these kids to get a decent start without any of those things. They need other adutls to help them along the road to true independence, which could be all of us,and this is what I'd like to do.
If they're still in high school, or recently out of it, let's send their foster parents the same amount of money that they received for being foster parents. That would allow them to stay in a familiar enviroment, with a family they've come to know, until they finish their education or job training, and are ready to begin their adult life with a solid base to do it on, instead of just booting them out of the home their living in, and sending them out into the streets with no security or preparation.
That's it, my big idea of the day, or maybe my whole life, but I know it can be done, without much difficulty. Let's Give Them Shelter.
If you have any thoughs about it, or just want to contact me, feel free to send an email to: tsmith203@hotmail.com.
